You may have seen news coverage regarding recent Salmonella Altona (SA) illnessess. We want reassure you, our customers, of our commitment to providing you with safe, healthy chicks. As a proactive measure, Mt. Healthy Hatchery launched an immediate internal review once we learned about the illnesses. Our own testing for SA to date all has come back negative. However, the internal review did reveal that chicks from a supplier for Mt Healthy Hatchery may have been linked to the illnesses, and we have already taken preliminary steps to suspend business relationships with that specific supplier and others that we believe may be a source of the SA. The health and well-being of our flocks, and the safety of our customers,is of paramount importance to us. We have always made biosecurity a top priority, but in light of this situation, Mt Healthy Hatchery is redoubling our biosecurity efforts through the following added measures:
We are and will continue to work with suppliers of hatching eggs and chicks purchased by Mt. Healthy Hatchery to ensure these eggs and chicks are negative for SA and other poultry deseases.
As a reminder, chicks purchased from our hatchery should be considered as farm animals-not pets- and should be treated as such.
