Light Brahmas (pullets/females)

Their smooth fitting full plumage is striking, with white edged black feathers in the neck, wings and tail. The heavily feathered shanks and outer toes are another interesting feature. Brahmas are dependable producers of large brown eggs.

Fun and Dumb, but great to have.First, these are very beautiful birds. Very handsome. Next, they are "cows". All the other things you read about them are true. There could be a foot of snow on the ground, and they're inside the coup laying eggs. They are very quiet and friendly. Out of every 12 eggs, 1-2 will be double yolks. The eggs are huge! They are not good foragers in the normal chicken sense. They are cows. They want to stay close to home and eat greens and grains. A lot of greens and grain!. They may lay eggs three times the size of the Reds and Australorps, but they eat three times more. Next, on a chicken "intelligence scale", with Rhode Island Reds being 9-10, Brahmas are 1-2. Out of about 8 breeds I've tried, they are the only ones to get lost 10 feet from the coup. They will also not come in out of the rain. I think everyone should try this breed at least once. Ostrich eggs!!! Great for baking! They made great Suburb chickens too. I also found them to be much more healthy than other breeds. I really enjoyed having them and took lots of pictures, you will to. Written by David Lilly on Tue 15 Jul 2014 10:14:53 AM GMT
